HOOKSETT, N.H. (February 11, 2012) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team claimed a 5-3 victory over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action on Saturday night at the Ice Den.

Senior forward Patrick Greene (Weymouth, Mass./Catholic Memorial) and junior forward Sean McNeil (Canton, Mass./Canton) both scored once and added an assist while junior defenseman J.J. Sabin (Milton, Mass./Tilton School) had a pair of helpers to lead the Skyhawks offensively. Freshman netminder Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) made 29 saves to improve to 7-9-0 overall on the season.

For the Penmen, freshman forward Steven Berry (Ashburn, Va./New Hampton School), junior forward Craig Carbonneau (Medford, Mass./Norwich) and Brian Troy (Ashburnham, Mass./Cushing Academy) all potted markers while sophomore goaltender Tyler Holske (Attleboro, Mass.) turned away 16 shots in the loss.

McNeil opened up the scoring for the Skyhawks at 6:52 of the first period putting home J.B. Sarra's (Colts Neck, N.J.) rebound for a 1-0 lead and his third goal of the season.

Senior forward Timothy Mathews (Mattapoisett, Mass./Phillips Exeter Academy) quickly made it 2-0 in favor of the visitors redirecting Sabin's shot from the point past Holske for a 2-0 advantage and his first marker of the year.

In the second period, Berry cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 2:19 mark on the power play off of feeds from Carbonneau and Casey Goll (Winthrop, Mass./New Hampton School).

Senior defenseman Matthew Doherty (Milton, Mass./Thayer Academy) answered for Stonehill moments later (4:01) beating a screened Holske for his third of the year and a 3-1 gap.

Freshman forward Fabio Cuetara (Irvine, Calif./Cushing Academy) netted the eventual game-winning goal at the 9:47 mark of the third stanza cleaning up a rebound initially shot by classmate Stephen Balsamo (Atkinson, N.H./Brewster Academy) near the right faceoff dot.

At the 13:36 mark, Carbonneau recorded his third goal of the season, on the power play, on a nice pass from Dane Caracino (Belmont, Mass./New Hampton School) to make it 4-2.

Troy pushed the Penmen within one, 4-3, at 16:19 of the stanza but Greene ended any chance of a comeback bid for Southern New Hampshire with an empty net goal – his sixth of the season – at the 19:50 mark of the contest.

Stonehill (7-11-2, 4-3-1 NE-10) travels to Saint Michael's College on Tuesday, February 14 for a NE-10 clash at 5:50 p.m. Southern New Hampshire (1-19-1, 0-10-0 NE-10) returns to action on Saturday, February 18 against Franklin Pierce University, on the road, at 7:30 p.m.
