Stonehill Sweeps Saint Rose, 9-0


Freshman Bailey Paradiso led five double-winners for Stonehill with victories at No. 1 singles and doubles.

Skyhawks return to Conference play with fifth-straight win

ALBANY, N.Y. (September 30, 2012) – Stonehill College, ranked fifth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional rankings, returned to Conference play and swept its way to a 9-0 victory over the College of Saint Rose in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at The University at Albany Bubble this afternoon.

Stonehill's underclassmen led five double-winners for the Skyhawks, starting with freshman Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, N.Y./Marian) who posted wins at No. 1 singles and doubles. She combined with senior Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.Y./Holy Spirit) for an 8-4 doubles victory and then claimed a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Saint Rose senior Jennifer Crego (West Shokan, N.Y./Onteora) in singles play.

Freshman Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) teamed up with sophomore Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Kump followed with a 6-0, 6-0 decision over sophomore Lauren Romine (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall) at No. 2 singles, while Lawrence posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory over sophomore Caitlin Beebe (Schodack, N.Y./Maple Hill) at No. 3 singles. Lawrence improved to 29-0 over her two year career in combined singles and doubles matches in NE-10 play with her two wins today.

Freshman Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) registered a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles over freshman Paige Southwick (Champlain, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton). Toegemann also teamed up with senior Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip) for an 8-0 decision at No. 3 doubles. Frost rounded out the Skyhawks double-winners with an 8-1 win at No. 4 singles, while junior Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) swept to an 8-0 victory at No. 6 singles.

Stonehill (5-0, 3-0 NE-10) is back in action on Wednesday when it visits College of the Holy Cross for a non-conference clash at 3:30 p.m. The Skyhawks next home match isn't until October 9, when it hosts the University of New Haven for a Conference clash at 3 p.m. Saint Rose (0-5, 0-5 NE-10) hosts Southern New Hampshire University on Monday, October 8, at noon.
