Baseball Outlasts Felician College, 3-2, in Extra Inning Battle

Three Skyhawks recorded two hits apiece

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (March 5, 2017) – The Stonehill College baseball team outhit Felician College 9-6 in 10 innings and was able to claim its second victory of the season, 3-2, Sunday afternoon at Paul Demie Mainieri Field.

Stonehill's Tyler Carey (Raynham, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham) batted 2-for-5 and scored one run, while Harrison Sabo (Wilton, Connecticut/Wilton) and William Kelleher (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) also tallied two hits apiece in the victory. Aubrey Solomon (Groton, Massachusetts/Lawrence Academy) also recorded his second save this season on the mound, as Michael White (Stamford, Connecticut/Stamford/Canterbury School) is 1-1 in his third appearance.

Felician saw Ronnie Grant bat 3-for-4, as Jason Polgano, Andrew LaMura, and Matt Kleinstein each tallied one hit. Brennan Price recorded five strikeouts in six innings pitched.

Stonehill registered its first hit of the game as Eddie Bowler (Hingham, Massachusetts/Hingham) hit a single to left field advancing Ben Monte (New Haven, Connecticut/Guilford) to third. The Skyhawks stranded the two runners in the bottom of the first, as Felician also punched its first hit of the game as Grant singled.

The Skyhawks connected once again in the top of the second gaining runners on second and third with one out, for Rocco to ground out to third base, sending Kelleher home for a 1-0 lead.

Felician responded in the bottom of the third with its own run off of a balk scoring Ralph Caccavale with only one out, 1-1.

The tie was short-lived in the top of the fourth, as Sabo advanced to home and Kelleher reached third on a wild pitch, putting the Skyhawks back up by one run, 2-1.

Both teams' defense was showing its strength as Stonehill totaled three errors, to Felician's one. The Skyhawks gave up its lead in the bottom of the eighth inning off of an error scoring Polgano.

Neither team was able to connect in the ninth inning, but Stonehill had the advantage in the top of the 10th,as Carey led off with a single to center field and stole second during the next batter. Monte was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with one out. He then stole second and advanced to third, while Carey stole third scooting past the catcher for the Skyhawks' third lead of the game, 3-2.

The Skyhawks (1-4) returns home before heading back down South to Boca Raton, Florida for 10 games from Sunday, March 5 to Saturday, March 11.
