Men's Track & Field Records Four Event Wins at Merrimack Carnival

Siaba leads in jumps, Germanna and Paulhamus strong in sprints again

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (April 23, 2021) – Stonehill College continued to work its way towards the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Championships with four event wins for a second-place team finish at the Merrimack Track & Field Carnival at Duane Stadium on the campus of Merrimack College this afternoon.

Stonehill finished the day with 158 points, second only to host Merrimack College's 265 points. Bentley University took third with 87 points, with Saint Anselm College fourth with 21. 

Highlights 

  • Senior Michel-Ange Siaba led a sweep of the top three positions in the long jump, clearing a distance of 23-feet, 8.25-inches. Sophomore Cameron Bernard was second with a leap of 23-04.75, while freshman Jayden Germanna was third at a personal-best 22-04.25. Sophomore Sam Anderson rounded out the Stonehill entries in the event with a personal-best distance of 21-04.25 for eighth place.
  • Siaba logged a personal-best with his second place in the triple jump, clearing a distance of 46-feet, 3.5-inches, while Anderson was posted another personal-best of 41-11.25 for fourth.
  • Germanna won the 200-meter dash in 22.64-seconds, leading three Stonehill sprinters in the top seven, including two in the top three, of 12 overall. Freshman John Paulhamus finished third in 23.24-seconds, while sophomore Nate Skopas was seventh in 23.63.
  • Paulhamus led four Stonehill entries in the top ten, including three in the top seven, out of 14 overall with a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter dash, finishing in 11.32-seconds. Sophomore Jake Dwyer finished sixth in 11.47-seconds, while Skopas was seventh in 11.62, and Anderson placed tenth in 11.78.
  • Senior Ethan Famiano took first in the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.29-seconds, followed by Dwyer in third at 15.98-seconds.
  • Freshman Cody DeAngelo won the pole vault by clearing a personal-best height of 12-feet, 5.5-inches on his second attempt.

    Freshman Andrew Morin finished second in the 400-meter hurdles in 59.89-seconds, while junior Jack Bowers was third in 59.91.
  • Sophomore Tyler Thomas placed third out of 11 entries in the shot put with a personal-best distance of 41-feet, 7.75-inches. Junior Robert Lisi was eighth with a throw of 37-05.
  • Lisi placed third in the hammer throw with a distance of 135-feet, 10-inches, while freshman Chris Cox was fourth at 134-11 in his collegiate debut and Thomas was sixth at 102-9.
  • Thomas was also sixth in the discus throw with a distance of 112-feet, 4-inches.
  • Sophomore Reilly Johnston finished third out of 10 runners, including five from Stonehill, in the 3000-meter run in 9:06.32. Junior Shane Braz rounded out the top five in 9:08.64, while freshman Aidan Byrne placed sixth in 9:11.16.
  • Junior Nickolas McNamee finished fourth out of 11 starters in the 800-meter run in 2:01.90, just ahead of freshman Nick Capalbo in fifth in 2:02.81.
  • Freshman Connor Hughes placed fourth out of 14 competitors in the 1500-meter run in a season-best 4:12.86.
  • Bowers, Capalbo, Morin and Paulhamus also ran for Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay that finished second in a head-to-head duel with Merrimack in 3:32.84. Bowers ran the lead leg, followed by Capalbo, Morin and Paulhamus.
  • Sophomore Daniel Bennett placed fifth in the javelin throw with a distance of 127-feet, 2-inches.

Stonehill is scheduled to return to the track for 2021 Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts, on May 6-7.
