EASTON, Mass. (March 18, 2022) – The Stonehill College baseball secured two wins against The College of Saint Rose Friday afternoon at Taunton High School in non-conference play with scores of 10-1 and 8-6.

Game 1: Stonehill 8, Saint Rose 7

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • Saint Rose struck quickly scoring three runs in the first two innings highlighted by a Derek Haughey home run in the first inning.
  • After the Golden Knights added one more run in the top of the fourth (4-0), the Skyhawks got one back (4-1) after Taylor ripped a single to left that scored Swanholm after he doubled earlier in the inning.
  • Once Saint Rose made it 5-1, Stonehill exploded for five runs in the sixth (6-5) to reclaim the lead from the Golden Knights. Kiely cut the deficit down to one (5-4) when he singled up the middle but it was Lucier's two-run RBI triple that gave the Skyhawks the lead heading into the final frame.
  • However, Saint Rose tied it back up (6-6) when Remmington Almarante doubled to right-center. Later in the eighth, Zephaniah Vaughn singled to left-center for the 7-6 lead going into the bottom of the eighth.
  • Stonehill's first two batters were retired quickly but Lucier kept the inning alive after he singled to right field. In the next at-bat, Farragher got the pitch he wanted and hit a walk-off home run for the 8-7 Stonehill victory.

Pitching Records:

Win: Stonehill-Brendan Kelly (1-1)

Loss: Saint Rose-Cameron Flynn (0-1)

Game 2: Stonehill 5, Saint Rose 2

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • Just like the first game, Saint Rose struck first (2-0) in the first inning highlighted by a Haughey RBI double.
  • Stonehill slowly chipped away at the lead when in the second despite a Taylor Gaspar strikeout, the ball got past the Golden Knights catcher which allowed Marshall to score from third (2-1).
  • In the bottom of the third, the purple and white added on two more runs (3-2) and took the lead back courtesy of a Swanholm sacrifice fly, and a Marshall RBI single to left.
  • During the fifth inning, the Skyhawks tacked on two more runs courtesy of a two-run RBI single from Marshall that made it 5-2.
  • Throughout the game, Stonehill starter, Zach Gleason shut down the Golden Knights offense which included a run where he retired eight straight Saint Rose batters. In the sixth, despite allowing a double, Gleason retired all Saint Rose batters via strikeout.

Pitching Records:

Win: Stonehill-Zach Gleason (3-0)

Loss: Saint Rose-Jeff Hayner (0-2)
