Baseball Splits Last Two Against Saint Rose

EASTON, Mass. (March 20, 2022)- The Stonehill College baseball team split their last two games against The College of Saint Rose, winning the first game, 3-0, and then falling in the second game, 7-2. Overall in the four-game series, the Skyhawks took three out of four from the Golden Knights. 

Game 1: Stonehill 3, Saint Rose 0

Standout Performances:

Key Moments:

  • Right away Stonehill struck first after Ciulla-Hall singled through the right side to score to Lidsky who had singled earlier in the inning. 
  • From that point on, Saint Rose could not get anything going offensively as Haas shut down the offense including a stretch where he retired seven straight batters from the first through third innings. 
  • Later in the fifth, the Skyhawks added on two more insurance runs (3-0) after Ciulla-Hall hit a hard grounder to third where the third basemen had a wild throw which allowed Farragher and Noah Lucier to take advantage and score. 
  • In the top of the sixth, the Golden Knights threatened with runners on first and second with no outs. However, Haas shut down the rally when induced a double play to get the first two outs and then forced a groundout to end the frame. 
  • Haas then finished off the side in the seventh with two ground outs and a strikeout for the complete-game shutout.

Game 2: Stonehill 2, Saint Rose 7

Key Moments:

  • Game two saw Saint Rose strike first this time in the first (2-0) highlighted by an RBI single for Jack McDonald who got the scoring started in the inning for the Golden Knights. 
  • After adding on two more runs (4-0) in the second from a Vince Venditti two-run home run, Stonehill cut the lead in half during the bottom of the third (4-2). Kiley drove in the first run with his RBI single that scored Taylor Gaspar who had singled earlier in the inning. Later in the inning, Farragher ripped a single to right that allowed Kiely to score. 
  • However, the Golden Knights added three runs in the sixth (7-2) to ultimately put the game out of reach which featured a two-run RBI by Niko Mokanos

Loss: Stonehill- Matt Smith (0-2)

Stonehill starts Northeast-10 Conference divisional play traveling up to Southern New Hampshire University for a four-game series starting on Friday, March 25 at 3 p.m. Saint Rose returns home to host Southern Connecticut State in a four-game series starting on Saturday, March 26 at noon.
