The Details
- The scoring started fast and early in Thursday's NEC matchup as the Sharks found the back of the net less than five minutes into the game (3:47) courtesy of Curcio. After drawing a free kick opportunity, Rascon sent her kick to the box where Curcio headed in the free kick.
- Despite the quick goal, Stonehill responded just as quick at 10:24 when Anselmo led on Sharkansky down the sideline, and from the left side of the box, Sharkansky lofted a shot that went over the reach of DeTreux and evened things at one.
- From there, neither side scored the rest of the half as Stonehill's defense and Durham kept the Sharks at bay. The Skyhawks had their best chance to go ahead in the first in the 34th minute when Anselmo riffled a shot at DeTreux and she made the save then Sharkansky corralled the rebound but saw her shot go off to the right.
- As the second half got underway, the Sharks broke the 1-1 draw in the 56th minute when Rascon drew another free kick and put her shot off the post and past Durham for the 2-1 advantage.
- From that point, the Skyhawks peppered DeTreux with seven shots including a great attempt by Emmy Dumaresq when she made a move that put the ball through the defender's legs to get open but her shot went just left despite the nice move to get free.
- The Skyhawks last chances for the equalizer came in the 84th minute when Grace Caso and Paige Marjanski sent shots at DeTreux one right after the other, but were turned away both times by the Long Island netminder.
- Overall on the day, Durham finished with five saves and it is her fourth straight start with five or more saves.
- The Skyhawks were slightly outshot, 14-12, and Long Island also held a small advantage in corner kicks, 6-3. Both Stonehill and Long Island each had two corner kicks in the second frame.
