EASTON, Mass. (September 12, 2024) – During the offseason, numerous members of the Stonehill College baseball team honed their skills in the NCAA–sanctioned summer baseballs leagues around the nation.
Incoming sophomore transfer
TJ Curley had a strong summer on the mound in the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL). The south-paw pitcher was named the NECBL Fan Vote Winner for the leagues All-Star game midway through the summer months. Curley, the Mount St. Mary's transfer, registered a 2-1 record in 18.0 innings pitched over nine appearances, with two starts on the hill for the Sanford Mainers. In his 18.0 innings of work, the Sanford, Maine native tallied 21 strikeouts for 10.5 strikeouts per nine inning rate and 2.33 strikeout to walk ratio.
In addition, Curley as well as current senior and summer league teammate
Ryan Douglas appeared in the NECBL Championship game. Douglas tallied 19 strikeouts and registered an 8.3 strikeouts per nine innings and 2.38 strikeout to walk ratio over 20.2 innings on the hill for the Mainers.
Also making appearances in the NECBL were rising senior
Max Brulport and rising junior
Jimmy Gilleran. Gilleran ranked second on the Bristol Blues with 33.0 innings pitched over nine appearances with 26 strikeouts, while Brulport pitched for the Vermont Mountaineers and recorded a 2.25 ERA with three strikeouts over 4.0 innings of work.
After their strong performances during the regular season of the NECBL, Curley, Douglas, and Gilleran were all invited to compete in the NECBL Summer Rivalry Classic Game held at Polar Park in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Rising senior
Taylor Gaspar as well as the rising sophomore duo of
Cam Morrison and
Nathan Kearney all represented Stonehill in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL). Gaspar was a member of the Westfield Starfies that played for the FCBL Championship at the end of the summer, while Morrison and Kearney played for the Brockton Rox and Nashua Silver Knights, respectively.
In 11 games, Gaspar posted a stellar .393 batting average off 11 hits, which included a pair of doubles and two round trippers. The Pawtucket, Rhode Island native, also drove home four runs and scored seven of his own while recording a .586 on-base percentage and .667 slugging percentage for an outstanding 1.253 OPS.
Morrison's, a catcher for the Brockton Rox, summer was highlighted when he was named Player of the Night by the FCBL on July 31 after going 3-for-4 at the dish with a homerun, two RBI, a stolen base, and two runs scored. Kearney appeared in 33 games for the Nashua Silver Knights where he slashed .302/.377/.345 with 35 hits, including five doubles, 16 RBI, and 15 runs scored.
Rising sophomore
Ryan LeClair and
Grayson Sparr took their talents to the Hamptons (HCBL) and South Florida Collegiate Baseball Leagues (SFCBL), respectively. LeClair was named an All-Star in the Hamptons as a member of the Shelter Island Bucks and recorded a .310 batting average off 36 hits, with five doubles, a pair of homeruns, 19 RBI, and 12 stolen bases throughout the summer. Sparr, an outfielder for the Boynton Beach Buccaneers of the SFCBL appeared in 24 games and registered a .273 batting average off 18 hits with six RBI, 12 runs scored, and five stolen bases.
Rising junior transfer
Adam Martin started on the mound in seven games for the Olean Oilers of the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL). Martin, a transfer from Framingham State, posted a 3-3 record over his seven appearances on the mound with a 4.19 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 38.2 innings pitched. The Brockton, Massachusetts native's summer campaign was highlighted by a solid 6.0 inning shutout outing against the Salamanca Lizards on June 21 where he punched out seven batters and gave up just one hit.

Will Christopher and incoming freshman
Luke Dellentash earned Atlantic Baseball Confederation Collegiate League (ABCCL) All-Star selections, while Boston College transfer
Gio Arzuaga pitched in the Valley League in Virginia. Arzuaga was named the Co-Pitcher of the Week for his June 28 outing of 6.0 scoreless innings of one-hit ball with five punch outs.
Rounding out the incoming class
Hunter Bell and
Josh Florence who registered a 3.85 ERA in 16.1 IP and a 2.94 ERA over 18.1 IP, respectively, for the Brockton Rox in the Futures League, while
Will Newton posted a .414 on-base percentage with the Sanford Spinners of the Old North State League.
