Stonehill Defeats Chestnut Hill,
6-3
HILTON HEAD, S.C. (March 8,
2010) - Stonehill College picked up its first victory of
the spring semester with a 6-3 decision over Chestnut Hill College
in non-conference men's tennis action this afternoon. Chestnut Hill
held a 2-1 advantage after doubles play, but Stonehill rallied by
talking five of six singles matches.
Senior Michael Mashkevich
(Goleta, Calif./Framingham (Mass.)) and junior Tim
Fayed (Glastonbury, Conn./Glastonbury) were double-winners
for Stonehill. The duo combined for an 8-3 decision at No. 1
doubles, before Fayed, the reigning Northeast-10 Player of the
Year, picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at first singles and Mashkevich
posted a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles.
Senior Michael Leone
(Cataumet, Mass./Bourne) rallied from a set down to post a
2-6, 6-3, 10-7 victory over Chestnut Hill junior Carson
Richter (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) at third
singles. Sophomore Jonathan Burke (Wakefield, R.I./South
Kingstown) won at tight match at fourth singles against
Griffins sophomore Julius Twyman (Coatesville,
Pa./Coatesville), winning the first set 7-5, before taking
the second in a tiebreaker 7-6 (7-4).
Sophomore David Negron
(Philadelphia, Pa./Cardinal Dougherty) was a double-winner
for Chestnut Hill, posting a 7-5, 6-2 win at fifth singles after
teaming up with classmate Adrian Avera (Vineland,
N.J./Sacred Heart) for an 8-5 victory at third doubles.
Stonehill (3-3, 1-0 NE-10) is back
in action tomorrow when it takes on Division I George Mason
University at 8 a.m.
