Stonehill Defeats Saint Anselm to Close Out Regular Season, 8-1

EASTON, Mass. (April 18, 2010) – Stonehill College, ranked fifth in the most recent NCAA Division II East Regional rankings, closed out the regular season with an 8-1 triumph over Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action in the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex this afternoon.

Sophomores Amy Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) and Sarah Hickey (Lee, Mass./Lee), along with freshman Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip) were all double-winners for Stonehill on the afternoon. Toegemann collected a 6-3, 7-5 win at second singles after combining with freshman Jacqueline Harrow (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) for an 8-1 victory at second doubles.

Hickey and Haedrich combined to close out a Stonehill sweep in doubles with an 8-2 win at No. 3. Hickey boosted her career singles record to 32-0 with her 6-1, 6-0 win at fourth singles, while Haedrich picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win at sixth singles.

Junior Erika Sartor (Andover, Mass./Andover) picked up the point for Saint Anselm with her 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.

Freshman Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) closed out the regular season with a 14-0 record in singles play in her first collegiate season with a 6-1, 6-0 decision at fifth singles for the Skyhawks. Senior Samantha Dircks (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) was also victorious in her final regular season home dual match, teaming up with junior Lindsey Herchel (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) for an 8-4 win at first doubles.

Stonehill (15-2, 12-1 NE-10) opens defense of its Northeast-10 Tournament championship on Wednesday. The Skyhawks will be the No. 2-seed for the upcoming NE-10 Tournament and will host as long as they are alive, including the championship match next Sunday, April 25, as Charles Watt Tennis Courts is the predetermined site of both the men's and women's championships. Stonehill will open the tournament with seventh-seeded Saint Anselm (7-6, 7-6 NE-10), match times will be announced on Monday.
