Sophomore Sarah Hickey was a double-winner for Stonehill today. She didn't drop a single game over her wins at fourth singles and third doubles.

Skyhawks open NE-10 title defense with second-straight win over Hawks

EASTON, Mass. (April 21, 2010) – Second-seeded Stonehill College, ranked fourth in this week's NCAA Division II East regional rankings, opened defense of its Northeast-10 Tournament title with a 5-0 victory over seventh-seeded Saint Anselm College in quarterfinal round action of the 2010 NE-10 Women's Tennis Championships at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Stonehill (16-2, 12-1 NE-10) advances to Friday's semifinal round where it will host third-seeded Adelphi University (14-2, 11-2 NE-10), ranked sixth in the region at Watt Courts at 2 p.m. The Panthers advanced to the semifinals with a 5-0 win over fifth-seeded Le Moyne College this afternoon. Stonehill will also serve as host of the NE-10 men's and women's championship matches on Sunday with the men's final at noon and the women to follow at 3:30 p.m. Saint Anselm sees its season come to a close with a 7-7 record overall, 7-6 in NE-10 play.

Sophomore Lauren Hickey (Lee, Mass./Lee) was a double-winner for Stonehill, posting a 6-0, 6-0 win over Saint Anselm freshman Alyssa Marciniak (Cumberland, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) at fourth singles to run her career singles record to a perfect 33-0. Freshman Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) closed out the match with her 6-0, 6-0 win over Hawks junior Lauren DeGuglielmo (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield) at fifth singles.

Hickey and freshman doubles partner Chelsea Haedrich (Islip, N.Y./Islip) got the match going with their 8-0 win at first doubles. Senior Samantha Dircks (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) and junior Lindsey Herchel (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug) picked up an 8-3 win at first doubles, while sophomore Amy Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) and freshman Jacqueline Harrow (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) closed out the Skyhawks doubles sweep with an 8-3 win at No. 2.
