PHILADELPHIA, Pa.
(September 20, 2010) – The Stonehill College men's
tennis team wrapped up its action at the 2010 USTA/ITA Division II
East Regional, hosted by Chestnut Hill College and Philadelphia
University.
Stonehill's doubles pairing of
junior Aaron Bergeron (Gorham, Maine/Gorham)
and sophomore Chris
Martin (Darien, Conn./Darien) advanced to the
semifinal round of the B-doubles bracket, while freshman Nicholas
Hyzak (Caldwell, N.J./Guilford) reached the B-singles
quarterfinals to highlight the Skyhawks entries. In the A-singles
bracket, senior Tim Fayed (Glastonbury,
Conn./Glastonbury) was topped by Concordia (N.Y.)
College's Felix Missal in the round of 16.
Bergeron and Martin reached the
semifinals by defeating Andy Gleason and Joe Persia from Le Moyne
College in the quarterfinals. The Skyhawk tandem was eliminated by
Sean Pahler and Petar Golijanin from Merrimack in the semis,
8-5.
Hyzak was defeated by Bentley's
Andrew Waddington, 8-4, in the quarterfinal round after defeating
Karlon Bernard from the University of District of Columbia, 8-1, in
the round of 32 and then Robby Sheuing from Queens (N.Y.) College
in the round of 16.
Martin retired his round of 16
match with Alex Mukdaprokorn from Southern New Hampshire University
after topping Pat Joson from Chestnut Hill in the previous round,
9-7. Bergeron fell to Miguel Uzcategui in the round of 16, 8-1,
after advancing past Merrimack's Tim McHugh, 8-5 in the previous
round. Junior Jonathan Burke
(Wakefield, R.I./South Kingstown) was topped in the round
of 32 of the B-singles draw by Gleason.
Stonehill (1-0, 0-0 NE-10) is back
in action on Tuesday evening when it hosts Franklin Pierce
University for its Northeast-10 Conference opener at Charles Watt
Tennis Courts at 6 p.m.
