Ringstad leads double-winners after back and forth singles triumph
COLCHESTER, Vt. (October 1, 2011) – Stonehill College, ranked tenth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional rankings, opened its season with a second straight win as result of a 9-0 sweep of Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action at Tarrant Recreation Center today.
Freshman Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe Catholic) led the double-winners for Stonehill after claiming a back and forth 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 victory over Saint Michael's sophomore Nick Bosco (Glastonbury, Conn./East Catholic) at No. 1 singles. Ringstad and sophomore Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) also combined for an 8-2 triumph at No. 2 doubles. Hyzak was also a double-winner for the Skyhawks, notching a 7-5, 6-1 decision over junior Chris Moskal (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) at No. 4 singles.
Senior Aaron Bergeron (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) teamed up with junior Chris Martin (Darien, Conn./Darien) to edge Bosco and Moskal 9-7 at No. 1 doubles. Bergeron also posted a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles, while Martin was victorious at No. 2, 7-6 (9-7), 6-1. Sophomore Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) and freshman Thomas Alaimo (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) rounded out the double winners for the Skyhawks by combining for an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles and then going on to win at No. 5 and 6 singles.
Stonehill (2-0, 2-0 NE-10) is right back in action tomorrow when it visits Pace University for an NE-10 matchup at 11 a.m. The Skyhawks return home on Tuesday to host Salve Regina University at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 4 p.m. Saint Michael's (2-1, 1-1 NE-10) travels to Assumption College tomorrow at 1 p.m.
