PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (September 19, 2011) – The Stonehill College men's tennis team, ranked tenth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional rankings, opened its fall season at the Wilson/ITA East Regional Championships, hosted by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC), at the Arthur Ashe, Jr., Youth Tennis Center this weekend.

Freshman Eric Ringstad (Fairbanks, Alaska/Monroe) got his collegiate career off to a solid start by reaching the round of 16 in the A singles draw and combining with sophomore Nick Hyzak (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) to reach the semifinal round of the B doubles bracket. Ringstad received a first round bye in the singles competition and defeated Bentley University senior Zack Tuckman in the second round, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2, before being topped by Queens (N.Y.) College senior Claudio Andrade, 6-1, 6-1 in the round of 16.

Ringstad and Hyzak opened with an 8-5 win over Merrimack's Sean Pahler and Vince Bellino in the first round and then topped Michael Pecoraro and Sim Hereen from Chestnut Hill College in the Round of 16, 8-2. The Skyhawks tandem edged Bentley's Rodrigo Ribeiro and Victor Suski, 8-6, in the quarterfinals before being defeated by Concordia (N.Y.) College's Ricardo Frey and Mark Mozer, 8-1, in the semifinals.

Hyzak reached the Round of 16 in the B singles draw for Stonehill. He defeated Hereen from Chestnut Hill, 8-5, in the first round and then Bentley freshman Peter Koopman in the second round before falling to Merrimack junior Petar Golijanen.

Senior Aaron Bergeron (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) advanced to the quarterfinal round of the B singles bracket before being defeated by Philadelphia senior Manoli Sguoros, 8-1. He opened the bracket with an 8-2 decision over Chestnut Hill sophomore Mike Pecoraro in the first round, before topping University of the Sciences freshman Will Metz in the second round, 8-2. Bergeron followed that up with an 8-4 win over Post University freshman Dreshawn Lewis in the round of 16.

Bergeron and junior Chris Martin (Darien, Conn./Darien) were eliminated in the first round of the A doubles bracket by Queens seniors Claudio Andrade and Tyrone Ewels, 8-1. Martin also fell in the opening round of the A singles bracket with a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Chestnut Hill freshman Mike Humes.

Sophomore Brett Armstrong (Manville, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) reached the B singles round of 16. He opened with an 8-1 win over Post freshman Connor Fenn and then blanked Southern New Hampshire University freshman Matt Paulsen in the second round. Bentley's Rodrigo Ribeiro eliminated Armstrong in the round of 16, 8-2.

Freshman Thomas Alaimo (North Andover, Mass./Central Catholic) was edged in the first round of the B singles draw by New York Institute of Technology sophomore Vojislav Pecikoza, 8-6. He and Armstrong also fell in the opening round of the B doubles bracket to NYIT's Eduardo Martua and Felip Van Eylen.
