Baseball Earns 3-2 Walk-Off Victory Against Bloomfield

Box Score

Sabo tallied his first-career homerun and walk-off hit

BOCA RATON, Fla. (March 7, 2017) - The Stonehill College baseball team scored a last minute run in the bottom of the ninth, as Tyler Carey (Raynham, Massachusetts/Bridgewater-Raynham) tallied his second game-winning run and Harrison Sabo (Wilton, Connecticut/Wilton) hit him home with two outs Tuesday morning at Lynn Baseball Field for a 3-2 victory against Bloomfield College.

Hurley gave up no runs in 8.0 innings pitched

For Stonehill (3-7), Carey batted 2-for-4 recording two runs scored with one walk, while Sabo went 2-for-5 with a homerun, one run scored and two RBI. The pitching duo of Patrick Hurley (Roslindale, Massachusetts/Catholic Memorial) and Aubrey Solomon (Groton, Massachusetts/Lawrence Academy) allowed six total hits, two runs and struck out five. Solomon earned the win, for his first of the season.

Bloomfield (2-3) saw Christopher Cabral bat 2-for-4 with one RBI, while four other Bears tallied one hit apiece.

Stonehill jumped on board in the bottom of the first as Carey reached third as the leadoff batter on a throwing error and Steve Lee (Braintree, Massachusetts/Braintree) walked and Carey advanced on a wild pitch with no outs, 1-0.

Both teams' bats were quiet in the second inning as neither team tallied a hit. The Skyhawks broke the silence with Carey singling to center field and Ben Monte (New Haven, Connecticut/Guilford) doubling down the left field line in the bottom of the third, but were unable to connect them as Carey was caught stealing second.

Bloomfield's Cabral registered the teams' first hit as he singled through the right side with two outs, as Stonehill held a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth.

The fifth, sixth and seventh innings became a pitching battle, as neither team connected at the plate. However, Stonehill was successful in the bottom of the eighth to extend its lead to two, 2-0, as Sabo homered to right field for his first-career blast.

Bloomfield reacted to the Skyhawks' 2-0 lead, as Ramger Iglesias singled to left field and stole second scoring off of Juan Reina's single. Harry Montero also singled to right field sending Reina to third and he later scored on Cabral's second single of the day tying the game at two, 2-2.

With two outs in the bottom of the ninth and bases loaded, Sabo singled to right center advancing Carey from third for the Skyhawk's first walk-off victory of the year and second 3-2 win.

The Skyhawks face Bloomfield College once again tomorrow, Wednesday March 8 at Lynn Baseball Field for a 10:00 a.m. first pitch.
