Garrido leads three double-winners for Patriots

HAINES CITY, Fla. (March 9, 2020) – Dallas Baptist University dealt Stonehill College a 5-2 setback to open its spring break schedule at Lake Eva Park this morning. 

How it Happened

  • Junior Gabe Garrido led three double-winners for Dallas Baptist in the win. He first teamed up with classmate Josh Williams for a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles to clinch the doubles point for the Patriots. Garrido followed that up with a back and forth 6-2, 4-6, 13-11 triumph over Stonehill sophomore Vincent Huynh at No. 2 singles.
  • Sophomore Grant McKenzie notched points at No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles for DBU. He and senior Riley Smith posted a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles for the Patriots and then McKenzie registered a 6-2, 6-2 singles win against freshman Christian Duffy.
  • Smith rounds out DBU's double-winners, adding a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 6 singles to his win at No. 3 doubles with a 6-4, 6-2 victory against freshman Ben Simmons.
  • Senior Manu Ravichandrakumar and sophomore Juan Camilo Riano Rojas were both double-winners for Stonehill in the match. The duo posted the Skyhawks lone doubles win with a 6-4 decision at No. 2. Riano Rojas fought past DBU junior Hunter Terrell for a 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) win at No. 3 singles, while Ravichandrakumar rallied to a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 win at No. 5 singles against Williams.

Stonehill (5-3, 0-0 NE10) is right back in action tomorrow against West Chester (Pa.) University at the University of Tampa at 8:30 a.m. The Skyhawks next home match is its Northeast-10 Conference opener against Assumption College on Sunday, March 22, at 1 p.m. Dallas Baptist (9-6, 0-0 LSC) was slated to face The College of Wooster for a second match today.
