Moser, Weiss and Tonini lead double-winners for Purple Knights

EASTON, Mass. (April 2, 2022) – Saint Michael's College dealt Stonehill College a 6-1 setback in Northeast-10 Conference men's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon. 

Highlights

• Sophomore Jackson Moser and juniors Seb Tonini and Josh Weiss led five double-winners for Saint Michael's in securing its first NE10 win of the spring.
• Junior Jason Boucher and freshman Sergio Barroso rounded out the double-winners for Saint Michael's, combining to key a doubles sweep for the Purple Knights, before adding singles wins.
• Senior Juan Camilo Riano Rojas earned Stonehill's point by rallying from a set down for a victory at No. 5 singles.

How it Happened

• Saint Michael's swept the doubles matches to earn its first point of the day, starting with Boucher and Barroso combining for a 6-1 win at No. 2, before Weiss and Tonini sewed up the point with their 6-2 decision at No. 3 doubles.
• Boucher posted Saint Michael's first singles point with his 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles over Stonehill junior Luke Nickerson.
• Barosso followed with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles against Stonehill sophomore Louis Coppi.
• Tonini provided the match-clinching point for the Purple Knights when he battled past Stonehill junior Ben Simmons 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
• Riano Rojas rallied from a set down for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles for Stonehill's point against senior Michael Rosen.
• Moser and Stonehill freshman Guillaume Duhil de Bénazé battled into a third set, before Moser rounded out his two-win afternoon with a 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 6-4 triumph at No. 1 singles.

Stonehill (6-4, 0-2 NE10) returns to action on Tuesday, when it visits Le Moyne College, ranked No. 45 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II rankings and, at 3:30 p.m. The Skyhawks return home to host Assumption University on Thursday, April 7, for an NE10 clash at Watt Courts at 3:30 p.m. Saint Michael's (5-9, 1-4 NE10) is off until next Saturday, when it visits Assumption University at 1 p.m.
