Stonehill Tops Dowling at
Home, 7-2
EASTON, Mass. (March 18,
2010) – Stonehill College, ranked third in the ITA
East Regional rankings, opened the home portion of its spring
schedule with a 7-2 victory over Dowling College, ranked tenth in
the region, in non-conference women's tennis action at
Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.
Sophomore Amy Toegemann
(Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) led the
double-winners for Stonehill, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No.
2 singles after teaming up with junior Lindsey Herchel
(Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) for an 8-1 triumph at
second doubles. Freshman Chelsea Haedrich (Islip,
N.Y./Islip) was also a double-winner, coasting to a 6-0,
6-0 win at No. 6 singles and combining with classmate
Jacqueline Harrow (North Reading, Mass./North
Reading) for a comfortable 8-1 win at third doubles.
Stonehill won two of the three
doubles matches to earn the early advantage in the match, and then
cruised to victory by winning five of the six singles matches.
Sophomore Lindsay Simmons (Wethersfield,
Conn./Wethersfield) won the closest match of the day,
topping Dowling senior Diane Kobasiuk (Mastic Beach,
N.Y./William Floyd) in three sets, 6-3, 5-7, 11-9.
Junior Tamiris Diversi
(Limeira, Brazil) was a double-winner for Dowling, picking
up a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles after combining with classmate
Cristina Hoffman (Floripa, Brazil) for an 8-6 win
at first doubles.
Stonehill (7-1, 4-0 NE-10) is back
in action on Tuesday when it resumes its Northeast-10 Conference
schedule here at Watt Courts against Le Moyne College at 11 a.m.
Dowling falls to 7-6 overall (3-1 ECC) with the loss.
