Men’s soccer was one of the original varsity sports atStonehill College. Angelo Caranfa, Jr., a 1962graduate of Brockton High School, became Stonehill’s firstand only All-American soccer player in 1965. Playing for then coachJohn Heslin of Bridgewater, Caranfa played mostly in the midfield.A crafty player with excellent soccer skills, Caranfa helped givethe Chieftains immediate respect. A resident of Brockton all hislife, Caranfa went on to Boston College where he earned hismaster’s degree in political philosophy. He is a freelancewriter.
