Michael Allocco, Stonehill Class of 1973, isregarded as the best basketball player to ever play at the College.An outstanding outside shooter and excellent rebounder, Alloccoestablished ever offensive record of note at Stonehill during theearly 1970s. The first All-American in Stonehill history, hisnumber 24 jersey is the first to be retired in Stonehill'shistory.

Allocco finished his career with aschool-record 2,399 points, without the benefit of thethree-point shot (which wouldn't be adopted in NCAA basketballuntil 13 years after his graduation), for a four-year average of23.8 points per game - both of which still rank first all-time inStonehill men's basketball history. Allocco also finished hiscareer with 1,150 career rebounds, making him one of just a handfulof players with over 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in Stonehillhistory.

Allocco was a three-timeAll-America selection, in addition to being named All-Conference inhis sophomore year and MVP of the Conference in his junior andsenior campaigns. He set a school record, that also still stands tothis day, with 52 points in a 124-90 victory over Norwich in1971.

Allocco played with two othermembers of the Stonehill Hall of Fame, Henry Jackson, '73 and HowieBain, '74, and the trio led Stonehill to the first two NCAATournaments in school history in 1971 and 1973. Allocco wasStonehill’s  first-ever basketball player to be selectedin professional basketball’s drafts as he was selected as the6th selection of the Baltimore Bullets (NBA) and the fourth roundselection of the Virginia Squires (ABA).
